Is this Scotland’s quirkiest distillery?
When we first saw pictures of the Fairytale Distillery, our initial reaction was disbelief – is this place for real?
Once we realised it was, and learned of its’ stunning location (it looks out across Loch Ailsh to Eilean Donan Castle and the Isle of Skye) our first words were ‘we’ve got to go there!’.
Sadly, we haven’t yet managed to pay a visit to the Fairytale team but we’ve been chatting to distillery manager, Joline to learn a bit more about them in order to add them to our A-Z and Scottish Distillery Map.
Founded in 2018 by a team of gin lovers, they produce six expressions of their Fairytale Gin, which is produced in a gorgeous hand-made still from Austria, called Tinkerbelle.
Their botanicals are carefully selected by a team of two botanists who, they tell us are 3rd generation botanists, specialising in gin. All the gins are non-chill filtered, which leads to a fuller taste sensation.
To get a real (or unreal) sense of what the distillery is like, take a look at this video on YouTube, taken and posted by a visitor to the distillery. Also on the site is ‘the wee bakery’ another business run by the family.
Joline told us:
‘Come and visit us to get a real fairytale feeling, just like Hansel & Gretel meeting Braveheart in the highlands. Try some of our Gin and be away with the fairies.’
And we certainly will! Watch this space for news of our visit and in the meantime, if you want to learn more about the distillery or the gin, visit their website.
